It appears that in the
Assistant Military
Secretary's letter No. 370 of the 18th of September 1884,
it was requested
that certain
portions of Inland Lots 670, 671 and 672 should be transferred to the War Department in connection with the construction of Belchers Battery.
On this letter the Surveyor General reported that as the land required by the War Department was private property, it would be necessary for the Crown to resume.
Mr. Price assessed the land at 40 cents per square foot,
and
stated the amount of
indemnity in respect of the land resumed from each lot as follows:

Lot 670 $2,371 Lot 671 $3,280 Lot 672 $2,040 Total $7,691The matter was considered
by Executive Council on the 15th
of October 1884, and the Council advised that the usual notice of Crown Resumption should be given.
On the 8th of December
1884 the Assistant Military Secretary wrote (in letter No. 451) asking for
a reply to the former letter.
The Surveyor General,
when asked to report, stated that a delay had occurred in endeavouring
to come to terms with the
